Miramar Chapter, I trust this finds you well and staying cool on this Labor Day holiday weekend. This Friday we’ll observe 9-11 Remembrance, or Patriot Day; a very timely reminder of how much we owe our first responders, as we currently experience this extreme heat and wildfires in East County. Please keep those men and women in your thoughts. On Sept 18th (the Air Force birthday) we also observe National POW/MIA Recognition Day and then Gold Star Mother’s Day on September 27th.
We held a Zoom Board of Directors meeting last week, thanks to Fred Green for setting that up. It was productive and great seeing fellow board members. We’re conducting a membership Zoom call Thurs, Oct 1st at 6 pm (See Insert). Please join for chapter update/great speaker. Zoom instructions provided.
A key decision taken at last week’s BOD was enacting a change to our award-winning newsletter format. October is the last month we’re emailing out a .PDF format. In November we will be emailing a newsletter announcement with a link to Chapter webpage, where all same information you are accustomed to will be posted and updated monthly. Speaking of awards, the banner above announces our chapter’s receipt of a 5-star Level of Excellence award for 2019, our 18th in a row. Miramar was one of only 4 chapters in California to win this award. Congratulations and well done to all our membership.
Our United States Navy turns 245 in October, established on Oct 13th, 1775 when the Continental Congress purchased two armed vessels to attack British ships and prevent them from reaching soldiers in the colonies. The central theme of this year's 245th birthday and heritage week will be "Victory at Sea," which encompasses the Navy's efforts in battle during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
